| HISTORY OF SAQQARA |
The birth of SAQQARA dates
back at the end of 1995, but the definitive line-up became stable during the year 1999.
From then onwards, the group has travelled to many different points of our geography, and
we have shared gigs with well-known national bands.
In the year 2000, SAQQARA became finalist at the POLIROCK (competition
of autonomic environment, where more than 60 groups took part), reaching the third place.
At the beginning of that year, SAQQARA published its first work
of long duration, " SADNESS ", with an approximate running time of 50 min.
for nine tracks.
SADNESS could be defined
as being a work of melodic metal in essence, because of the force and closeness of their
lyrics.
Nowadays, SAQQARA is working in its second CD
that will be released during the summer of 2001. The album will have a central concept,
that of the discovery of the New World.
| ANOTHER POINT OF VIEW |
(Related by our
friend Juanan)
Towards the summer of 1.994 about five boys decide that the music world belongs to them by
right, and that they can overcome music stars: "Tumba Abierta", the prelude of
what nowadays is known as "Saqqara", had been born. Their première is
formalized in January 1995, in a pub of Valencia I won't give you any more clues -.
During the following year, they made some gigs and composed many songs, not being able to
made up their minds for a specific and well-defined style. But after a deep rearrangement
of the group plus some new incorporations, their style begins to fall on the heavy metal
side, up to then only one of the possible options. They began to play like the devil a
song that could fit in a Sepultura set-list; in the next one, they reminded Guns and Roses
in their golden years, with quite a spaghetti-like sound, not finding yet the in-between
point. But there's nothing that some good gigs, rehearsing again and again, and industrial
doses of Bacardi cannot fix! Soon after, some good ideas ripened in their minds, and one
could see that they were heading for the German heavy metal trend (God, pity us, poor
sinners!).
But this doesn't mean that they have given aside the musical legacy of
their countrymates; in many of the lyrics one can recognize the enigmatic touch of
"Medina Azahara", or the melancholy of "Suaves", also
"Baron" or the misunderstood feeling of "Extremoduro", Sometimes I
have even recognized, and I know that Jorge will kill me for saying this, a reflection of
"Heroes del Silencio" in their lyrics (when you stop and listen to the lyrics,
and you wonder "What the f*** are they talking about?).
In fact, the truth is that I like the style they have adopted, because although their guitars have become totally to the Lutheranism, their lyrics still keep untouched the memories of the music I listened in my "rebel" years, music almost exclusively made by Spaniards, buecause we didn't understand English.
Some wondered when reading this, how is it
possible that they take so much in leaving to the public?, How is it possible to wait but
of 6 years?, question ask that I loved to respond: Simply because to be able to blunt a
little in this musical world our it is necessary a voice, if not very good, at least that
makes the rule. I would not lie if I said that much of people that I know had proven at
some time, although sometimes joking, to sing some lines with them, included me,
it would lack but!.
That's the way things were, and we had still a long way to go, until
one day the Holy Mother came to us, and brought us Javi, bone idle, but Javi after all,
and finally we were able to stop having "everybody's vocalist test", and at last
the line-up we all know became stable. By the way,... if you do not know it?, What the
hell are you waiting for!!!
